The Situation
Trafalgar Marquees is a small business providing event and long-term marquee hire across the UK. As a business that was in the process of applying for B-Corp status, it was seeking to realign their workplace pension scheme to be more in tune with their values, particularly around sustainability.
At the same time, the business wished to explore financial protection options for their employees – something that felt fitting for their desire to best support staff.
What We Did
We worked with the business to identify their objectives for the scheme, as well as their budget.
For their financial protection programme, we assessed and presented a range of options. Once agreed, we undertook a Request For Quote (RFQ) process to source the most competitive terms for the options selected.
For their pension plan, we identified a suitable scheme provider to align with the business’ core values. With this provider, we developed a bespoke default option with a lower weighted average carbon intensity, an 85% reduction in exposure to fossil fuel revenues and the elimination of any holdings in contravention of the UN Global Compact.
We supported the execution of both the new workplace pension scheme switch and the introduction of financial protection. Bespoke communication materials were produced to explain the changes with employees.
The Outcome
Both the business’ leadership and the wider staff team were pleased with the results of our process.
In addition to improved ethical alignment, the new default pension option we developed offered comparable historical performance* (period June 2018 to April 2023) and fees to the legacy option.
The new financial protection programme now ensures that employees are protected in the event of unforeseen circumstances, offering a valuable benefit and increased peace-of-mind.
